Nuh-uh Syndrome

Hey everybody! The Mangrove Suite has a snazzy new cover! I also finished a novel’s rough draft this week, but that’s not really what I feel like discussing today on the blog.

You see, I have ADHD, even as an adult it is a bother to concentrate. I am medicated for this condition, but recently I tried downsizing my dosage for the last few months. Earlier this week I decided the attempt was resulting in depression and other issues that arose in the absence of the full dose.

After a few days on my prescribed dose of ADHD medication, something occurred to me.

For me, ADHD is the “Nuh-uh!” syndrome.

That is to say, when I want to do something difficult or requiring focus, ADHD says, like a petulant child: “Nuh-uh!”

When I have trouble dealing with this issue it feels as though I’m more the voice that says “nuh-uh,” than when I’m medicated sufficiently. With the medication, the voice is quieter and also easier to ignore.

Anyway, I’ll be back next week with more about fiction than I had this time.

Thanks for reading.
